Ford Ranger Raptor v Bowler Bulldog | 4x4s tested off-road and on track | Autocar

Published 20 November 2019. The Ford Ranger Raptor is one of our favourite off-roaders of the moment. We'd say pick-up, but it's not much of a double-cab pick-up these days, because the sturdy leaf springs have been chucked out at the back and the whole chassis redesigned, with coil springs and Fox Motorsport dampers, to create a Baja-style rally car. It's ace. Appropriately, then, we have a Bowler Bulldog, a real-life cross-country rally car to test alongside it. The Bulldog is the product of a small British company with a huge heart and a huge amount of off-road racing experience. This particular Bulldog packs a Range Rover V8 engine making in excess of 540bhp. And with a side-exit exhaust, it is well worth hearing. Join Matt Prior in Wales as we test the Raptor and the Bulldog in as close to their natural habitat as we can. Plus a bit of time in unnatural habitats, with the Bulldog on a race track. Can an off-roader also be a sports car? Stay tuned. New videos are uploaded to Autocar each week. Don't miss a single one. Subscribe now: http://smarturl.it/autocar

On the trail of the Bentley Boys in the Bentley Blue Train
  • In 1930, Bentley Boy Woolf Barnato bet £100 that he could race the famous Le Train Bleu from Cannes to London before the train could reach Calais. 83 years on, Steve Cropley tells the story. In January 1930 Rover claimed its Light Six had gone faster the Le Train Bleu, one of the world's most luxurious trains, which ran from Cannes in the south of France to Calais in the north. One evening at dinner, Bentley Boy Woofe Barnato said that was nothing special, and he could race the Blue Train, reach Calais, cross the English Channel and reach the Conservative Club in London before the train arrived in Calais. He succeeded with four minutes to spare. Here, Steve Cropley retraces the Bentley Boys' London haunts in the very car than Barnato made the journey.

Onboard the ultimate Lancia Stratos HF rally replica
  • Published: 8th July 2021. Welcome to Late Brake Show Car Caves, where Jonny explores private car garages and drives one of the vehicles in the collection. This time it is the Lister Bell STR - or better known as the 1970s Lancia Stratos replica rally car. The car was featured in episode 3 of this Car Caves, where Kevin Johnson - aka Miura Man - opens the doors on his characterful Bedfordshire barn conversion full of heavenly mid-engined supercars. Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show. Climb onboard the ultimate Lancia Stratos rally replica - volume up for this one! This private tour was of huge interest, because Kevin (originally from Wales) owns the kind of supercars normally associated with vast collections. He is not a collector - he is a supercar driver. Kevin can afford an original Stratos, but he chose to buy an LB Specialist Cars STR instead. Jonny drives it to see what the fuss is about. The Car Caves playlist is proudly supported by EBC Brakes.
